Work We Turn Down
We work on torsion and extension springs, openers, cables, rollers, track, and panel damage on residential garage doors. Most of the houses we see sit in the 1938 to 2000 range, with a lot of them built close to the 1958 median, so a good share of the hardware we touch is original side-mounted torsion on a door that was never meant to carry a modern insulated panel.
We don't do commercial overhead doors, rolling steel, or fire-rated doors - that's a different set of parts and a different inspection process, and we'd rather send you to someone who does it full time than guess at it. We also won't replace a spring set on a door whose track is bent or whose opener bracket has pulled loose from the header; in those cases the spring isn't the problem and swapping it just hides what's actually wrong until it fails again, usually in January when the cold makes steel brittle and a weak point snaps instead of bends.
If your door is original to a pre-1960 build and the drum, shaft, or end bearing plate has corroded past the point of resetting tension safely, we'll tell you that replacement is the honest call rather than another repair bill six months out. That's not us drumming up work - it's the same hardware wearing out at the same rate across most of the older stock in this area.
Contacting Us
Call 248-847-0851. That line goes to someone who can look at your door type, your opener brand if you know it, and tell you roughly what you're dealing with before anyone drives out. If you can tell us the age of the house, that helps - a door from a 1958-built home behaves differently under tension than one installed in a 1998 build, even if the symptom sounds the same on the phone.
Our location is 3310 W Big Beaver Rd, Troy, MI 48084. We work the immediate area and the ring of close-in communities around it, including Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Berkley, Beverly Hills, Madison Heights, Royal Oak Township areas near Ferndale and Pleasant Ridge, and out toward Rochester and Auburn Hills.
Winter changes what we hear on the phone. In a cold climate like this one, a spring that's been marginal all fall often goes at the first hard freeze, because cold steel has less give before it snaps rather than stretches. If your call is about a door that won't move at all and it's single-digit outside, say so - that changes what we bring on the truck.
Who Turns Up
The person who answers the phone is generally the person who can tell you what a repair will run before you commit to a visit, and the person who shows up at the door is equipped to diagnose spring tension, track alignment, and opener wiring on site rather than guess and come back a second time.
We carry stock sized for the housing we actually see around here - torsion springs sized for doors installed across the 1938-2000 build range, since that covers the bulk of the 169,091 owner-occupied houses in the surrounding area. That doesn't mean every part is on the truck every day; a less common panel size or an opener model that's been discontinued can mean a short wait on a special order, and we'll say so up front instead of promising same-day on something we don't have in hand.
We don't oversell. If a $40 roller swap fixes the noise you called about, that's what gets written up, not a full torsion conversion you didn't need.
Frequently asked questions
Do you come out to Birmingham or Bloomfield Hills?
Yes. Birmingham is about 4 miles from our Big Beaver Rd location and Bloomfield Hills is about 5 - both are inside the area we regularly work, along with Berkley, Beverly Hills, and Madison Heights a bit further out.
Can you fix a spring on an older house?
Most of the houses we work on were built between 1938 and 2000, with a lot sitting around the 1958 median, so original torsion hardware on side-mounted shafts is common. We can usually service it; if the shaft or bearing plate has corroded past safe reset tension, we'll say replacement makes more sense.
What's your service area besides Troy itself?
We work Troy and the close-in ring around it - Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Madison Heights, Berkley, Beverly Hills, and out to Rochester, Auburn Hills, and Ferndale. If you're further out, call and we'll tell you honestly whether it's a trip we make.
Do you carry parts for older doors?
We stock torsion springs sized for the common builds in this area, roughly 1938 through 2000. Less common panel sizes or discontinued opener models sometimes need a special order, and we'll tell you that on the phone rather than promise same-day service we can't deliver.
